Forward rates mixed, front-year gains as water levels slip
July 24 (Reuters) -Nordic forward power prices were mixed on Wednesday amid low trading activity, while the front-year contract edged up on a decrease in water levels in the hydropower-reliant region.
* The Nordic front-quarter contract ENOFBLQc1 fell 0.4 euro to 45.5 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) at 1026 GMT.
* The Nordic front-year contract ENOFBLYc1 gained 0.15 euro to 42.7 euros.
* Nordic water reserves available 15 days ahead PCAEC00 were seen at 1.83 terawatt hours (TWh) below normal, compared with 0.61 TWh below normal on Tuesday.
* "We are (yet again) largely sideways today. It is a quite slow market right now, trading activity is low, there is summer holiday mood and there are no noticeable changes to any fundamentals," said Karsten Sander Nielsen, a senior market analyst at Energi Danmark.
* "There are drier conditions on the way next week, which prevents the market from falling right now," Nielsen added.
* Dutch and British wholesale gas prices were steady on Wednesday as balanced supply and demand left the market rangebound. NG/EU
* Germany's Cal'25 baseload TRDEBYc1, Europe's benchmark contract, gained 2.05 euro to 89.30 euros/MWh.
* Carbon front-year allowances CFI2Zc1 added 1.62 euro to 67.35 euros a tonne.
* "The rest of this week and the entire next week will be often cloudy with rain or showers in western and southern Scandinavia, while the east and north will be partially dry with some sunny intervals," according to Georg Muller, a meteorologist at LSEG.
* The Nordic power price for next-day physical delivery FXSYSAL=NPX, or system price, fell 3.96 euros or 14.5% to 23.32 euros per MWh.
