US major grid operator PJM issues hot weather alert for Aug. 5
Aug 2 (Reuters) -PJM Interconnection, the largest U.S. power grid operator, has issued a hot weather alert for its Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions for Aug. 5.
It said it expects to serve a peak load of about 144,830 megawatts (MW) on Monday, adding that temperatures in those regions are expected to exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32.2 degrees Celsius), accompanied by high humidity.
This summer's highest peak load so far was 153,400 MW recorded on July 16. PJM's all-time recorded peak electricity demand was 165,563 MW in August 2006.
PJM manages a large electric grid and competitive wholesale electricity market for parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia.
