Germany orders 38 Airbus H225 helicopters for federal police
Adds details throughout, contract value; changes dateline to BERLIN from PARIS
BERLIN, June 6 (Reuters) -Germany will buy up to 44 H225 Super Puma transport helicopters from Airbus AIR.PA in one of the largest purchases in the history of its federal police force, the interior ministry said on Thursday.
The order, announced at the ILA air show outside Berlin, has a contract value of just under €1.9 billion ($2.07 billion), the ministry added.
Airbus said Germany had placed 38 firm orders with options for an additional six Super Pumas. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2029.
The helicopters will replace an aging fleet of EC155 and AS332 Super Pumas, an earlier version of today's H225 model.
Germany's federal police force employs about 45,000 officers and is in charge of protecting borders, airports and railways.
"With the state-of-the-art new helicopters, the federal police will be able to perform its tasks to secure our borders, combat terrorism, protect critical infrastructure and carry out large-scale operations even more quickly and flexibly", the ministry said.
