Europe Distillates-Diesel fall further on high supply
LONDON, Aug 28 (Reuters) -Northwest European diesel barge refining cracks dropped over 9% to $13.46 a barrel on Wednesday, extending losses from the previous session and remaining at their lowest since May 2023, as ample supplies in the region and rising U.S. inventories weighed.
Four barges of 10ppm diesel traded in the Platts window, down from 10 on Tuesday. Belgomine and TotalEnergies sold to Vitol and Glencore.
U.S. distillate stockpiles USOILD=ECI, which include diesel and heating oil, rose by 300,000 barrels last week to 123.1 million barrels, versus expectations for a 1.1 million-barrel drop in a Reuters poll, Energy Information Administration data showed.
A significant supply overhang in diesel and jet fuel supplies is weighing on prices, Sparta Commodities analyst James Noel-Beswick said. Stocks are, however, expected to clear as refineries enter seasonal maintenance in September and October, he added.
EU and UK diesel and gasoil imports have reached 1.25 million barrels per day so far this month, Kpler data showed, up from about 1 million bpd in July.
Azerbaijan SOCAR's STAR oil refinery in Turkey will halt operations in early September for up to two months of maintenance, four sources familiar with its operations told Reuters on Wednesday.
The refinery, with a capacity of more than 200,000 barrels per day, will undergo its first major maintenance since its commissioning in 2018, the sources said.
SOCAR will begin the maintenance on Sept. 5, according to two of the sources. The works will continue for about two months, three of the sources said. One of the sources said the refinery will shut for 45 days.
