Cotton prices slip on demand worries, lower crude oil
Aug 14 (Reuters) -ICE cotton futures fell over 1% on Wednesday, pressured by concerns over demand and downbeat sentiment in the crude oil.
* Cotton contract for December CTZ4 fell 0.7 cent, or 1.03%, at 67.29 cents per lb at 15:44 GMT.
* "The crop looks pretty good, despite the fact they cut the overriding factor is poor demand... so even if we cut the crop it looks like demand is going to be very slow into next year." said Keith Brown, principal at cotton broker Keith Brown and Co in Georgia.
* The Chinese economy continues to struggle, while another reason may be the recent political unrest in Bangladesh, which is one of the major consumers, said Brown.
* The U.S. Department of Agriculture reduced global cotton consumption estimates by 1 million bales to 116.2 million in its August World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report.
* The report cited lower consumption in China and Bangladesh, which outweighed increased use in Pakistan and Turkey.
* Oil prices edged lower, making cotton-substitute polyester less expensive. O/R
* In a weekly crop progress report on Monday, the USDA said 46% of the cotton crop was in good-to-excellent condition, compared with 45% a week ago.
* Cotton prices posted an August low, with market closely monitoring if this holds, if not we could go lower to 65 cents, said Brown.
* Elsewhere, Chicago soybeans steadied, after hitting another four-year low, on a bumper forecast for the U.S. harvest, while corn and wheat edged lower as large supply and strong export competition hung over the cereal markets. GRA/
