Updates prices

LONDON, Sept 4 (Reuters) -London cocoa futures slid to a six-and-a-half-month trough below 5,000 pounds a ton on Wednesday amid forecasts for above average rainfall in West Africa, while robusta coffee rallied.

COCOA

* December London cocoa LCCc2 fell 4% to 4,969 pounds per metric ton at 1413 GMT, having earlier hit its lowest since mid-February at 4,955.

* Following mostly dry conditions for much of the past month, above average rainfall is expected over the next two weeks in key cocoa-producing region West Africa, according to Refinitiv weather models.

* Dealers noted prices had slipped below the psychological 5,000-pound mark, adding that the market lacks liquidity and buying interest from funds, with improved prospects for next season's crop giving bulls pause for thought.

* December New York cocoa CCc2 fell 5% to 6,908 a ton, having hit its lowest since mid-August at 6,903.

COFFEE

* November robusta coffee LRCc2 rose 2.6% to $4,834 a ton.

* Prices are still some way off last week's peak of $5,180, which was the highest level in at least 16 years.

* Robusta prices remain underpinned overall, however, by longstanding concerns that extreme heat earlier this year in top producer Vietnam could reduce the upcoming harvest.

* December arabica coffee KCc2 edged up 0.1% to $2.4305 per lb.

* Below average rainfall is expected over the next two weeks in top producer Brazil's key arabica-producing regions, according to Refinitiv weather models.

SUGAR

* October raw sugar SBc1 fell 1.6% to 19.18 cents per lb, having settled up 0.6% on Tuesday.

* Sugar remains underpinned by No. 2 producer India's decision to allow sugar mills to use cane juice to produce ethanol.

* Also boosting sugar are the dry conditions in top grower Brazil, which are expected to remain in place throughout this month.

* On the downside, though, are forecasts for ample rainfall in India and Thailand.

* October white sugar LSUc1 fell 1% to $536.50 a ton.
