Weekly Technical Analysis – EURUSD, EURTRY, USDJPY

This week the focus of attention will be on the US retail sales, the Turkish elections that are coming up with a second round on May 28 and the Japanese GDP and CPI data. The attention will therefore be switched on how EURUSD, EURTRY and USDJPY may react. US retail sales → EURUSD The highlight will be the US retail sales for April. Expectations are for both the headline and core month-over-month rates to have rebounded to 0.7% and 0.4% respectively from -0.6% and -0.4%.

The Turkish lira fell to a new record low this week, despite the nation’s central bank burning through its FX reserves in recent months to keep it from crashing. Inflation is still in the double digits, the current account deficit is exploding, and policymakers are pumping the economy with cheap credit again – which is a classic recipe for currency depreciation.

Technical Analysis – EURTRY skyrockets to fresh record high at 7.8276

EURTRY surged to a new record high today, testing the 7.8276 level and continuing the strong upside rally after the bounce off the 6.8810 support. The upward sloping simple moving averages (SMAs) are following the price action as well as the technical indicators. The RSI inserted itself the overbought zone, while the MACD remains above its trigger and zero lines in the 4-hour chart.
