Spain backs Sidenor's potential bid for Talgo, Expansion reports
MADRID, Nov 20 (Reuters) -The Spanish government is considering financial support for the partial or total purchase of train manufacturer Talgo TLGO.MC by Basque steel maker Sidenor, the Expansion newspaper reported on Wednesday citing Transport Minister Oscar Puente.
Sidenor's bid would receive support from the Basque regional government as well as from the central government through state holding company SEPI, the newspaper said.
Last month, Sidenor said it was considering buying all or part of the train maker.
Hungarian consortium Ganz-Mavag earlier withdrew a tender offer for Talgo following the Spanish government's opposition to the deal.
Puente's spokesperson was not immediately able to confirm his comments.
Spokespeople at Sidenor, SEPI, the Basque regional government and Talgo did not respond to requests for immediate comment.
