KYIV, Sept 12 (Reuters) -Ukrainian producers believe the corn harvest in 2024 will fall to 24 million metric tons, dropping more significantly than agriculture ministry forecasts, the deputy head of the UAC farm producers union said on Thursday.

The ministry has forecast the harvest at no less than 25 million tons, while the USDA's estimate is around 27 million tons.

"Corn losses could be 8 to 9 million tons," the UAC's Denys Marchuk said on national television.

The main reason for the drop was extremely high temperatures that hit all of Ukraine during the flowering of corn, when the crop was forming, Marchuk said.

Ukraine harvested around 31 million tons of corn in 2023.
