GENERATIVE AI SEEN DISRUPTING IT SERVICES SPACE, EXPOSING VULNERABLE NAMES

Generative AI will shorten the time taken to "separate the winners from the losers" of the IT services sector, Bernstein analysts say.

"We assume that business process services and managed services - both application and infrastructure - may be more negatively impacted by GenAI due to potential price deflation effects," writes Bernstein analyst Richard Nguyen.

Within Bernstein's coverage, Nguyen warns Atos ATOS.PA and CGI CGI.TO may be the most vulnerable, as they are more exposed to at-risk segments such as business process and managed services, which represent respectively 68% and 54% of their revenues.

He estimates that 35% of Capgemini's CAPP.PA revenues may be considered at risk, while 23% and 20% respectively of Indra IDR.MC and Reply's REY.MI revenues are at risk.

"GenAI may have a pricing deflation effect as of 2026 for the overall services market, similar to the labour arbitrage (offshore) cycle 20 years ago," says Nguyen.

Nguyen believes AI could speed up automation of some segments like business process outsourcing and managed services, underscoring the need for companies to "move up the value chain and adjust their offerings if they are to thrive in this new GenAI-led world".
