US banks climb ahead of looming Fed decision
** Shares of U.S. banks rise ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy statement, expected on Wednesday
** The KBW Regional Banking Index .KRX and the KBW Regional Banking ETF KRE.P jump 3.5% and 4.1%, respectively
** Gainers include Comerica CMA.N and Citizens Financial CFG.N, which climb 5.2% and 5.3%, respectively
** Fed expected to keep interest rates unchanged on Wednesday, despite latest data that showed progress in its fight against inflation
** Still, traders are now pricing in a 73% probability of an interest rate cut by September, up from 53% on Tuesday, according to the CME Group's FedWatch Tool
** Rate cuts can help banks' profitability by lowering the interest they are liable to pay on their customers' deposits
** YTD, the KBW Regional Banking Index .KRX and the KBW Regional Banking ETF KRE.P have dropped 15.2% and 11.7%, respectively
