UK miners rise on higher copper prices, Rio leads gains
** Shares in UK miners .FTNMX551020 up 1.9% at 6,875 pence as copper prices rise vs FTSE 100 .FTSE which is up 0.4%
** Largest sub-index constituent Rio Tinto RIO.L gains 2.3% on solid copper prices, brokerage raising PT
** Copper prices rose driven by a softer dollar over renewed optimism for U.S. rate cuts and as supply concerns outweighed weak demand prospects from China, the world's top consumer
** JP Morgan raises RIO's PT to 6,650p from 6,610p; raises Antofagasta’s ANTO.L PT to 1,850p from 1,700p
** JPM Commodities Research predicts recovery in Chinese copper demand delayed until later in 2024 from Q2.
** Macquarie forecasts increased volumes across all operations, with the exception of Canada, for the June quarter for RIO
** Sub-index constituents Antofagasta and Glencore GLEN.L climb 2.5% and 2% respectively; both among top gainers on the FTSE 100 index
** Anglo American AAL.L rises 0.3%
** As of last close, sub-index down 1.1% so far this year
