THE UK HAS ITS PREMIUM STOCKS TOO!
The FTSE 100's .FTSE recent run to record levels has brought the UK back on equity investors' radar screens and it looks that the prevailing narrative of a market lacking global champions is being challenged.
Berenberg says portraying the UK market as being "too domestic, too cyclical" and lacking the features to attract "better-quality" companies is only partly true.
"There are plenty of UK listed stocks that prove the narrative wrong, have a track record of strong economic delivery and globally relevant business models that justify higher valuations," say analysts at the German bank.
"As the performance of the magnificent seven in the US, and a similar group of companies in Europe, has shown, quality-above-all-else can work," they add.
So, after speaking to its 90-strong pan-European research department, Berenberg has come up with a screen of 16 companies that it believes meet the criteria to be premium stocks.
In the large cap section are Auto Trader AUTOA.L, Berkeley BKGH.L, Compass CPG.L, Croda CRDA.L, Intertek ITRK.L, LSEG LSEG.L, RELX REL.L and Wise WISEa.L. In mid-caps, it lists Boku BOKU.L, Cerillion CER.L, Cranswick CWK.L, Diploma DPLM.L, Howden HWDN.L, IntegraFin IHPI.L, Judges Scientific JDG.L and Oxford Instruments OXIG.L.
