July 25 (Reuters) -Aerospace leaders are meeting at the Farnborough Airshow in southern England this week amid rising geopolitical tensions and supply chain challenges.

Following are highlights of Reuters' coverage of the event.


LATEST NEWS

* Low-cost Saudi airline flynas signs a memorandum of understanding for 75 Airbus A320neos and 15 A330-900s.

* A UK initiative to promote green jet fuel will need to be taken up around the world - and built on - if the technology is to have any chance of delivering its promise of radically cleaner flying.

* Defence firms are confident Western governments will continue to increase spending on weapons to counter Russia and China.

* A U.S. move to slash restrictions on transferring military gear and technology with Britain and Australia will bolster the AUKUS security alliance between the three countries.

* A Donald Trump presidency would benefit the U.S. defense industry, Heico Corp's co-president said.

* Flydubai is in early talks with Boeing and Airbus to place its largest ever plane order.

* Libya's Berniq Airways orders six Airbus A320neo planes.

* Qatar Airways will decide on a "sizeable" new order of wide-body jets in late 2024 or early 2025.

* Qatar Airways orders 20 more Boeing 777-9s.

* Japan Airlines finalises order for 20 Airbus A350-900s and 11 A321neos.

* Macquarie Airfinance orders 20 Boeing 737 MAX-8 planes.

* Virgin Atlantic orders seven more Airbus A330neos.

* Korean Air to buy 20 Boeing 777X and 20 787-10 jets.

DEFENCE

* A UK defence policy review will not derail a multibillion-dollar fighter jet programme being developed by Italy, Japan and the UK, according to one of the project firms.

* British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed the importance of the UK's fighter jet capability (GCAP), but stopped short of guaranteeing its next generation combat air programme with Japan and Italy would not be affected by a defence policy review.

* The British Army has carried out its first test of Raytheon's anti-drone laser weapon from a military vehicle.

* The GCAP fighter jet programme is heading for the launch of the design and development phase in 2025 "at pace".

* The GCAP is being developed such that it is open for other partners to join.

* Brazil's Embraer formalises the sale of nine C-390 Millennium military aircraft to the Netherlands and Austria.

* Britain renews a 6.5 billion pound, 10-year weapons partnership with European missile systems company MDBA.
