Italy's Mediobanca sets up corporate and investment banking branch in Germany
Adds details on branch management in paragraphs 3-6
July 8 (Reuters) -Mediobanca MDBI.MI is opening a new branch in Germany to focus on the corporate and investment banking advisory business, the Italian investment bank said on Monday.
The branch will be based in Frankfurt with a team of 12 specialists and will provide M&A and debt advisory services to German customers, the group said in a statement.
Wolfram Schmerl and Christoph Handrup will be the head and co-head of the branch, reporting to the bank's head of global mid corporate & sponsor solutions, Lorenzo Astolfi.
Schmerl and Handrup previously worked together as co-founders of the German branch of Spanish investment firm Alantra ALNTA.MC, of which Schmerl was managing partner and CEO.
Senior banker Maximilian Rohardt will be the head of debt advisory, the statement added.
"Mediobanca is strengthening its footprint in Germany with a view to capitalising primarily on opportunities in the Mid Corporate sector", Mediobanca's corporate and investment co-heads Francisco Bachiller and Giuseppe Baldelli said in the statement.
