Adds details and background

ROME, Oct 3 (Reuters) -Italy plans to increase taxation on companies that operate in sectors benefiting from favourable business conditions, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Thursday, hitting stocks at the Milan bourse.

Giorgetti gave no details, but mentioned weapons manufacturers as an example of a sector that is going through a positive business period.

"There will be a general call for everyone to contribute, not just banks," Giorgetti said in a recorded interview for an event organised by Bloomberg.

Some traders said his remarks weighed on Milan's blue-chip FTSE MIB index .FTMIB, which closed down 1.5% with energy and financial stocks among the worst performers.

Italy is working on a 2025 budget with measures worth around 25 billion euros ($27.54 billion) mainly devoted to cutting income taxes and social contributions.

Under the plan, Italy will drive up next year's budget deficit to 3.3% of gross domestic product from 2.9% under current trends, raising around 9 billion euros of extra borrowing to fund the package.

The rest will necessarily be financed through a combination of higher fiscal revenues and spending cuts.

"We will be approving a budget that will require sacrifices from everyone," Giorgetti added.

Among the measures being studied, the Treasury said in a statement it planned to end an excise duty discount on diesel, while ensuring that the overall taxation on fuel remains unchanged.
