POLITICS

Italy's rightwing coalition on Monday passed rules curbing the installation of solar panels on agricultural land, ministers said, in a move that triggered criticism as it could undermine Rome's decarbonisation goals.


Journalists at Italian state broadcaster RAI staged a one-day strike on Monday, accusing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's right-wing government of stifling free speech.


Five workers were killed on Monday in an accident at a sewage treatment plant near Palermo, while another was found unconscious and taken to hospital, firefighters said. The deaths are the latest in a series of workplace fatalities in Italy that have caused anger among trades unions and were highlighted by union leaders in May Day rallies last week.

DEBT

Italy's new BTP Valore retail bond attracted orders worth 3.7 billion euros ($4 billion) on its first day of offer, drawing less demand than a similar issuance in late February, Milan bourse data showed on Monday.

Treasury continues offer of new 6-year 'Btp Valore', BTP bond for retail investors only; ends on May 10, subject to early closure.

Treasury announces sale of BTP bonds, with relative amounts to be auctioned on May 10.

(*) German defence electronics maker Hensoldt HAGG.DE, in which Leonardo has a 23% stake, said on Tuesday it almost doubled its order intake in the first quarter, driven by rising defence spending in its main market Germany.

The Italian asset manager beat forecasts on Monday with strong growth in both net profit and revenue in the first quarter.


AMPLIFON AMPF.MI

The Italian hearing aid company on Monday posted a 10.7% rise in first-quarter recurring core earnings (EBITDA) to 136.8 million euros ($147 million), with a margin of 23.9%, helped by steps to boost productivity in the second half of 2023.
