SYDNEY, July 16 (Reuters) -The Australian and New Zealand dollars climbed on the yen on Tuesday after recent declines, although they lost further ground to the greenback as markets continued to digest the prospect of a Donald Trump victory in the White House.

The Aussie strengthened 0.2% to 106.98 yen AUDJPY=R, rebounding for the first time in four sessions as the suspected intervention from Tokyo last week disrupted the popular carry trade. That saw the Aussie peel back to a 33-year top of 109.67 yen on Thursday.

The kiwi also resumed its upward movement NZDJPY=R after four sessions of declines and was last up 0.2% at 96.11 yen.

The U.S. dollar was 0.12% firmer in Asia, supported by renewed weakness in the Japanese yen, even as dovish Federal Reserve comments fuelled bets of more rate cuts this year. The greenback also benefited from the so-called Trump-victory trades, with the long-term Treasury yields moving higher.

Against the U.S. dollar, the Aussie slipped 0.3% to $0.6739, building on a 0.4% drop overnight. The Aussie retreated from a six-month top of $0.6798 hit last week.

The kiwi dollar NZD=D3 weakened 0.4% to $0.6050, after falling 0.7% overnight to breach a key support level of the 200-day moving average of $0.6077. It remains to be seen if the $0.6048 level can hold.

The Australian dollar faces profit-taking risks after a 2% rise in the first half of July, with resistance around the psychological level of 68 cents, said Philip Wee, senior FX strategist, DBS.

"Hence, the month-long rally in AUD/NZD due to the divergent RBA-RBNZ policy outlook could stall," said Wee.

Down Under, investors are awaiting New Zealand's CPI report due on Wednesday as well as Australian jobs data on Thursday, with both viewed as critical for an immediate interest rate outlook.

Due to the dovish shift in pricing for Fed, swaps imply two rate cuts from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand this year, while wagering a 12% probability that the Reserve Bank of Australia would deliver a hike in August.

The Australian dollar hit a 20-month high of NZ$1.1142 AUDNZD=R.
