CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Corn barge bids mixed, soy basis steady-down
Sept 17 (Reuters) -Basis bids for corn shipped by barge to the U.S. Gulf Coast were mixed on Tuesday while soybean basis bids were steady to lower amid loading delays at the Gulf and shipping disruptions on the river, traders said.
* Offers for near-term export loadings of corn and soy were unquoted as recent weather delays, including from Hurricane Francine last week, have backed up loading schedules.
* Harvesting of Delta region soybeans, which are largely loaded for export, weighed on nearby CIF barge basis bids. Harvesting was 46% complete in Louisiana as of Sunday, 44% done in Mississippi and 29% finished in Arkansas, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.
* Low water on the lower Mississippi River continued to impede barge shipments to the Gulf, pressuring upriver CIF basis values. Barge lines are limiting drafts and tow sizes, which is increasing the per-bushel cost of shipping.
* The Mississippi River at Memphis is forecast to fall to within 3 feet of its all-time low by the end of this month, according to National Water Prediction Service data.
* CIF corn barges loaded in September were bid 1 cent higher at 73 cents over Chicago Board of Trade December CZ24 futures. October barge bids were down 2 cents at 78 cents over futures.
* FOB Gulf export premiums for corn shipped in November, the earliest available loading slot, were unchanged at 110 cents over CBOT December futures.
* CIF September soy barges were bid 5 cents lower at 63 cents over CBOT November soybean SX24 futures while October barge bids fell 4 cents to 70 cents over futures.
* FOB soy export premiums for the first half of November were around 130 cents over futures, while last-half November offers were 118 cents over futures, both unchanged.
