Spot prices track demand gains in Germany
PARIS, July 22 (Reuters) -European spot prices on Monday were tracking forecasts for demand eclipsing gains in German wind power, in contrast with demand gains that expected to be overtaken by rising wind power supply in the rest of the region.
The residual load is expected to rise slightly in Germany on Tuesday while remaining largely unchanged across the rest of the region, said LSEG analyst Naser Hashemi.
German baseload power for Tuesday TRDEBD1 was at 84.50 euros ($92.03) per megawatt hour (MWh) by 0836 GMT while the equivalent French contract TRFRBD1 was 48.50 euros/MWh, LSEG data showed.
Both Monday contracts were untraded on Friday, the data showed.
German wind power output was expected to edge up by 410 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday to 10 GW, while French output was forecast to gain 1.4 GW to 5.2 GW.
LSEG analysis showed that wind power supply in Germany is expected to rise on Wednesday to 13 GW then plunge to about 5 GW on Thursday before rebounding to 7 GW on Friday.
German solar power supply was forecast to dip by 240 MW to 12 GW, the data showed.
French nuclear availability rose two percentage points to 73% of total capacity as three reactors returned from planned maintenance and only one went off. POWER/FR
Power from German solar panels is expected to increase through the week to about 16 GW on Thursday before falling back near 14 GW Friday, LSEG data showed.
Power consumption in Germany was expected to add 1.5 GW on Tuesday to 53.8 GW while demand in France was projected to rise by 1.3 GW to 44.7 GW, the data showed.
German year-ahead power TRDEBYZ5 was down 0.7% at 86.60 euros/MWh while the French equivalent, Cal '25, TRFRBYZ5, was untraded after closing at 77.50 euros/MWh on Friday.
The price of European CO2 allowances for December 2024 expiry CFI2Zc1 was down 1.3% at 65.47 euros a metric ton.
The European carbon market is – like many others – in a bit of a summer holiday mood and there should not be anything to end the range-bound trading in Monday's session either, EnergiDanmark analysts said.
