US Cash Crude-Grades firm on second day of volatile cash roll period
July 24 (Reuters) -U.S. coastal grades strengthened slightly on Wednesday, dealers said, the second day of the cash roll period that traders use to manage their exposure.
Mars Sour WTC-MRS gained 5 cents, while WTI Midland WTC-WTM gained 15 cents.
Traders use the three-day roll period to adjust their slates and square positions, resulting in more volatile trading.
Cash roll for August to September traded at $1.15.
U.S. crude oil, gasoline and distillate inventories fell more than expected last week, the Energy Information Administration said on Wednesday.
Crude inventories fell by 3.7 million barrels to 436.5 million barrels in the week ended July 19, the EIA said, compared with analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a 1.6-million-barrel draw.
U.S. gasoline stocks fell by 5.6 million barrels in the week to 227.4 million barrels, the EIA said, compared with analysts' expectations for a 400,000 fall.
Distillate stockpiles, which include diesel and heating oil, fell by 2.8 million barrels in the week to 125.3 million barrels, versus expectations for a 250,000-barrel build, the EIA data showed.
In refining news, Exxon Mobil's XOM.N 251,800-barrel-per-day refinery in Joliet, Illinois has restored sufficient power to begin restarting after a storm took most units offline last week, a company spokesperson said.
Cenovus Energy CVE.TO shut two units at its 160,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery in Toledo, Ohio, this week, research and consultancy firm Wood Mackenzie said.

* Mars Sour WTC-MRS gained 5 cents at a midpoint of a $1.9 discount and was seen bid and offered between a $2.10 and $1.70 a barrel discount to U.S. crude futures CLc1
* WTI Midland WTC-WTM gained 15 cents at a midpoint of a 70-cent premium and was seen bid and offered between a 50-cent and 90-cent a barrel premium to U.S. crude futures CLc1
* West Texas Sour WTC-WTS gained 25 cents at a midpoint of a 10-cent discount and was seen bid and offered between a discount of 30 cents and 10-cent a barrel premium to U.S. crude futures CLc1
* WTI at East Houston WTC-MEH, also known as MEH, traded between a $1.20 and $1.60 a barrel premium to U.S. crude futures CLc1
* ICE Brent September futures LCOc1 rose 70 cents to settle at $81.71 a barrel.
* WTI September crude CLc1 futures rose 63 cents to settle at $77.59 a barrel.
* The Brent/WTI spread WTCLc1-LCOc1 narrowed 3 cents to minus $4.08, after hitting a high of minus $3.89 and a low of minus $4.12.
