SHARES OF TRUMP'S MEDIA COMPANY NEAR RECORD LOWS
Shares of former President Donald Trump's media company are down on Wednesday and approaching a record low, reflecting the Republican candidate's recent decline in the polls and betting markets.
Trump Media & Technology Group DJT.O is dipping 1.8% in Wednesday's session and was just above its low point in April. The company went public in March through a SPAC tie-up.
TMTG is majority owned by Trump and its main asset is the Truth Social app popular with some conservatives. The company's stock market value has fallen to $4.7 billion from over $9 billion in late March.
Some retail investors have viewed TMTG as a bet on whether Trump will return to the White House, and the recent drop in the stock tracks with the disintegration of Trump's sizeable lead in polls and betting markets.
With 83 days to go before the Nov. 5 U.S. presidential election, contracts for a Trump victory are trading at 45 cents, with a potential $1 payoff if he wins. Trump contracts traded as high as 69 cents in mid-July before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and was replaced by Vice President Kamala Harris.
As well, Trump has recently returned to X, formerly Twitter. He was suspended from the site in 2021, but Elon Musk reinstated him after buying the company in 2022, and the two this week held a public discussion on the platform.
Last Friday, TMTG reported its quarterly results, including a net loss of $16.4 million, and revenue of $837,000, down from $1.2 million the year-ago quarter.
