US Gulf Coast energy facilities restart operations hit by Hurricane Beryl
July 10 (Reuters) -Energy facilities along the U.S. Gulf Coast restarted some operations and began deploying personnel at some production sites in the Gulf of Mexico after Beryl weakened from a hurricane to a post-tropical cyclone on Tuesday.
Beryl, the earliest category 5 hurricane on record, swept through Jamaica, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, killing at least 11 people and toppling buildings and power lines last week.
The storm made landfall in the U.S. on Monday near the coastal town of Matagorda in Texas, prompting the closure of the largest ports in Texas, including the port of Corpus Christi.
Its impact on oil and gas production was expected to be limited as it weakened into a post-tropical cyclone by Tuesday.
Total U.S. economic loss minimally estimated as a billion-dollar event as damage assessments remain ongoing, according to insurance broker Gallagher Re.
U.S. Gulf of Mexico offshore production, which amounts to about 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd), constitutes roughly 14% of the total crude output in the United States, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Any disruption to supplies has the potential to increase prices of U.S. oil and offshore crude grades.
