(*) BANKS

The head of Italy's banking association ABI told Corriere della Sera in an interview on Friday that he backed the idea of creating a special purpose vehicle, with mixed public-private capital, to buy credits held by banks at market prices.

Antonio Patuelli said the vehicle would be a good solution to help banks face tougher government rules on the 'Superbonus' incentive for home renovations, a crackdown which Patuelli said could hit lenders' accounts.

ERG ERG.MI

The Italian energy company is ready to adopt a selective and more flexible approach to seize market opportunities, CEO Paolo Luigi Merli said on Thursday, commenting on ERG's new 2024-2026 business plan.

The energy contractor said on Thursday it had won a new offshore contract worth around $850 million awarded by Azule Energy - a joint venture between Eni and BP BP.L - for the development of the Ndungu Field off the coast of Angola.

Lufthansa's LHAG.DE bid to buy a stake in Italian peer ITA is set to be blocked by EU antitrust regulators unless there is a substantial improvement to remedies to address competition concerns, people with direct knowledge of the matter said on Thursday.

BANCO DESIO DESI.MI

Banca Popolare di Puglia e Basilicata BPPUGL.HT said on Thursday it has approved a deal to sell 14 branches in Italy's centre-north to Banco Desio DESI.MI for 21.9 million euros. The closing is expected in December.

(*) JUVENTUS FC JUVE.MI

The Serie A club could sack coach Massimiliano Allegri as early as Friday after his behaviour during and after Wednesday's Coppa Italia final against Atalanta, several newspapers reported on Friday.
