Sept 17 (Reuters) -The dollar edged up Tuesday amid higher Treasury yields after a spate of solid U.S. economic data and as sentiment improved ahead of an expected Fed rate cut Wednesday.

Market odds remain at over 60% for a jumbo 50bp rate reduction.

In U.S. data, August retail sales rose 0.1%, confounding expectations for a 0.2% decline. August industrial production and July business inventories beat estimates, and homebuilder sentiment improved in September.

The loonie eased following a report that Canadian CPI fell 0.2% in August versus a median forecast of no change, bolstering the case for additional Bank of Canada rate cuts.

The yen slid about 1% amid profit-taking and option-related sales as Treasury yields advanced.

In European data, Germany’s ZEW economic sentiment index fell to its lowest level since October.

Treasury yields rose about 2-4 basis points across tenors, the 2s-10s curve eased to +5.4bp.

The S&P 500 dipped 0.04% after briefly climbing to an intraday record.

WTI jumped 2.04%, fueled by bullish bets ahead of an expected Fed rate cut and concerns about output from the Gulf of Mexico.

LME copper eased 0.30% on higher yields and a stronger dollar.

Gold dipped 0.60%, pulling back from Monday’s record high amid rising yields.

Heading toward the close: EUR/USD -0.16%, USD/JPY +0.92%, GBP/USD -0.47%, AUD/USD +0.01%, DXY +0.18%, EUR/JPY +0.79%, GBP/JPY +0.58%, AUD/JPY +0.85%.
