Oct 18 (Reuters) -The dollar fell on Friday amid profit-taking ahead of the weekend and investor optimism about U.S. corporate earnings and China stimulus efforts.

In U.S. data, single-family home building surged to a five-month high though building permits rose only marginally.

Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank President Raphael Bostic said he will be patient on cutting rates to make sure inflation does not stall out above the U.S. central bank's 2% target.

The euro rose amid short-covering as investor focus turns to euro zone October PMI next week.

Some European Central Bank governors at Thursday's rate-setting meeting made the case for dropping a pledge to keep policy tight as inflation may now turn out lower than anticipated only a few weeks ago, five sources told Reuters.

The Chinese yuan firmed after the country's central bank kicked off two funding schemes to help lift the stock market.

The pound finished higher following a report British finance minister Rachel Reeves is expected to prolong a freeze on income tax thresholds beyond 2028 in the government's upcoming budget, the Financial Times reported on Friday. Several BoE speakers are on the docket for next week.

The yen rose amid position-squaring even after Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said the central bank must focus on the economic impact of unstable markets and risks from overseas.

U.S. President Joe Biden said there is a possibility of working towards a ceasefire in Lebanon but it will be harder in Gaza.

Treasury yields were down 2-3 basis points across tenors. The 2s-10s curve was little changed at +11.1bp.

The S&P 500 rose 0.41% amid broad sector gains with tech leading the way.

WTI oil fell 1.68% after data showed China's economic growth slowed and investors digested a mixed Middle East outlook.

Gold rose 0.93% amid Middle East tensions, U.S. election uncertainty and China stimulus efforts.

Copper edged up 1.22% supported by the new liquidity measures supporting the Chinese market.
