KYIV, Aug 1 (Reuters) -Ukraine wants to boost cooperation with African nations in the agricultural sector, its acting farm minister said on Thursday, as it looks for new markets for farmers suffering from falling commodity prices and reduced demand.

Ukraine has traditionally exported grain to northern Africa and less actively to central Africa, leaving the rest of the continent without significant supplies.

"For Ukraine, expanding cooperation with African countries is a strategically important area. This is a continent with 1.5 billion people and consumers," Taras Vysotskiy said in a statement.

"And this continent can be a partner in two ways: both for the export of Ukrainian products and, in the medium- and long-term, for the development of technological partnerships," he added.

Vysotskiy said that Ukrainian experience in soil treatment technologies, irrigation, agricultural production, veterinary, plant protection and fodder production could develop the farm sector in African countries.

He said Ukraine had success in entering international markets and most Ukrainian enterprises were high-tech and highly efficient. In future these companies could expand their presence in African countries.
