Mexican energy plan to boost state power company, set rules for private producers
Adds details on energy plans
MEXICO CITY, Nov 6 (Reuters) -Energy priorities for Mexico's government include boosting state-owned national power company CFE while also setting rules for private electricity producers, including those generating clean energy, senior officials said on Wednesday.
Energy Minister Luz Elena Gonzalez, speaking at a press conference alongside the country's president, said private power producers will be able to generate renewable electricity of up to 9.55 gigawatts by 2030.
The term of leftist President Claudia Sheinbaum, who took office last month, extends until 2030.
Sheinbaum told reporters the main goals of her energy plan is to grow the CFE, guarantee electricity access and promote development. She added that legislation to implement the plans will be presented to lawmakers early next year, including a proposal to end existing energy regulators.
Officials added that the government will spend some $23.4 billion on the CFE by 2030, while national electricity demand is expected to reach 64.9 GW over the next six years.
