BERLIN, Aug 29 (Reuters) -German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has asked Thyssenkrupp to postpone a supervisory board meeting of the group's steel division, a ministry spokesperson said, a move aimed at resolving open conflict between workers and management.

The meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday afternoon and aims to continue talks around Thyssenkrupp's plans to divest Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe (TKSE), should be delayed by four weeks "to open up the possibility for further discussions", the spokesperson said.

Habeck's involvement highlights the escalation over the future of Thyssenkrupp's iconic steel division, which has pitted Thyssenkrupp CEO Miguel Lopez against the unit's management and labour representatives.

Lopez demands deeper restructuring of the business and is not prepared to meet funding expectations for the division's standalone future.

TKSE, meantime, wants to ensure sufficient financial headroom in a potential future set-up, which could see Thyssenkrupp and Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky as equal shareholders.
