LONDON, July 18 (Reuters) -Northwest European diesel barge refining margins dropped slightly to $17.53 a barrel on Thursday on slowing demand and even as regional inventories fell.

  • Five diesel barges traded in the Platts window with Gunvor, Shell and Belgomine selling to Mabanaft and Hartree.

  • Independently held gasoil stocks in storage in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) refining and storage hub fell by 3.5% in the week to Thursday, data from Dutch consultancy Insights Global showed.

  • Gasoil inventories stood at 2.08 million tons, falling despite weak demand inland, as imports slowed.

  • U.S. distillate stockpiles USOILD=ECI, which include diesel and heating oil, rose by 3.5 million barrels last week to 128.1 million barrels, versus expectations for an 800,000-barrel drop in a Reuters poll, Energy Information Administration data showed.

  • "We maintain a neutral to bearish view on European diesel pricing until the effects of September's maintenance period begin to influence European premia," Sparta Commodities analyst James Noel-Beswick said. He added that unworkable arbitrage from India, the Middle East and the US Gulf Coast to Europe was coinciding with weak local demand and the potential arrival of diesel-laden VLCCs in the Atlantic basin.

  • EU and UK July diesel and gasoil imports have reached 924,000 barrels per day so far, Kpler data showed, compared with 1.05 million bpd in June.
