BOGOTA, Aug 26 (Reuters) -Cenit, a subsidiary of Colombia's majority state-owned oil company Ecopetrol ECO.CN, on Monday reported five attacks on the Cano Limon-Covenas and Bicentenario pipelines.

Three attacks were carried out on the Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline and two on the Bicentenario pipeline, the company said in a statement. A spokesperson said exports had not been affected.

The attack was carried out by unknown assailants, the company said. Colombian leftist guerrillas of many different stripes have, at various points, carried out attacks on oil infrastructure.

Cenit did not give the dates of all the attacks but local media reported a thick column of smoke rising above part of the Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline on Monday. The army is in the area protecting technical staff who are carrying out repairs, it added.

As well as attacks with explosives, Colombia's pipelines are frequently the target of criminal gangs who illegally siphon oil for clandestine refining and use in the drug trade.

The country's other major pipeline, the Trasandino, was taken offline late last year and is expected to remain shutdown through the end of 2024 as part of a strategy to stop oil being stolen.
