Aug 20 (Reuters) -Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE index opened down 0.2% on Tuesday.


* ANTOFAGASTA: Chilean miner AntofagastaANTO.L posted a 5%increase in half-year profit on Tuesday, as higher copper prices more than offset lower sales.

* ANGLO AMERICAN: First-round bids for Anglo American'sAAL.L Australian metallurgical coal mines aredue by Sept. 9, two sources said, as CEO Duncan Wanblad takes initial steps to simplify the company after rejecting a takeover offer from BHP BHP.AX.

* WOOD GROUP: British oilfield services and engineering firm Wood GroupWG.L posted an 8.5%jump in its first-half adjusted core earnings on Tuesday aided by improved pricing, while maintaining its earnings forecast for the current year and 2025.

* OIL: Oil prices edgedlower as Israel accepted a proposal to tackle disagreements blocking a ceasefire deal in Gaza, helping ease concerns over supply disruptions in the Middle East.

* METALS: Copper prices in Londonfell on short-covering after prices rallied in the previous sessions, while demand concerns remained in top consumer China.

* GOLD: Gold held steady near its record high as investors awaited U.S. Federal Reserve minutes and Chair Jerome Powell's speech for indications on how much the central bank will cut rates this year.
