Aug 15 (Reuters) -Canada's main stock index touched atwo-week high on Thursday as technology and energy stocks rose, after the U.S. retail sales data allayed recessionary fears and kept bets intact for a September rate-cut by the Federal Reserve.

At 10:03 a.m. ET (14:03 GMT), the S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 166.41 points, or 0.73%, at 22,926.426, its highest since August 1.

The benchmark indexwas also set to register its sixth straight session of gains.

U.S. retail sales rose more than expected in July, assuaging fears of a sharp economic slowdown that were prevalent earlier this month after a jump in unemployment rate in the world's biggest economy.

On the other hand, the U.S. weekly jobless claims unexpectedly fell, indicating an orderly labor market slowdown remained in place.

Traders are now pricing in a higher likelihood of the Fed implementing arate cut of 25 basis point (bps) instead of 50 bps in the September monetarypolicy meeting.

"The combination of data" translates that "we still have resilient economic growth," Angelo Kourkafas, investment strategist at Edward Jones Investments, said.

"And when you combine that with moderating inflation, that is the recipe for a soft landing."

Yield on the U.S. 10-year benchmark Treasury note US10YT=RR rose 9 basis points after the data, while the Canadian 10-year yield CA10YT=RR also jumped.

On the Toronto Stock Exchange, sectoralgains were led by the information technology sector .SPTTTK that rose 1.6%, driven by the rally in shares of Celestica CLS.TO and Shopify SHOP.TO.

Canada's energy sector .SPTTEN climbed 1.3% after oil prices soared on optimism around the possible U.S. interest-ratecuts that can boost activity and fuel consumption. O/R

Consumer staples .GSPTTCS and consumer discretionary shares.GSPTTCS were also among the top gainers in a broad-based rally.

Among individual stocks, mining firm Capstone Copper CS.TO shares jumped 5.4% after reporting second-quarter results.
