STOXX CALM, SET FOR SMALL WEEKLY GAIN

Europe's STOXX 600 is treading water on Friday as markets awaited fresh impetus, with the index heading for a small weekly gain after dropping the week before.

The pan-European benchmark .STOXX is down less than 0.1%, but is still up 0.1% for the week after a near 2% drop last week.

Britain's FTSE .FTSE and Germany's DAX .GDAXI are both also just in the red.

Investors in France's CAC .FCHI are widely overlooking higher corporate taxes in the new budget, with the index down just over 0.1%.

In corporate news, Sainsbury SBRY.L shares are down almost 5% after the Qatar Investment Authority, the British supermarket chain's top shareholder, sold part of its stake worth 306 million pounds.

Rate sensitive sectors, such as real estate .SX86P and utilities .SX6P, are leading, while aerospace and defence .SXPARO and luxury names .STXLUXP lag.
