Spot prices diverge on opposing renewable forecasts

PARIS, Sept 18 (Reuters) -European prompt power prices for Thursday diverged as the German spot price ticked down in response to an expected rise in wind supply and the French price rose on a dip in supply.

German baseload power for Thursday TRDEBD1 shed 1.4% at 76.50 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) at 0736 GMT, LSEG data showed.

French day-ahead TRFRBD1 power rose 37.1% to 56.90 euros/MWh.

German wind power output is expected to add 870 megawatts (MW) on Thursday to 19.1 gigawatts (GW), while French wind power output is expected to shed 1.5 GW to 6.7 GW, LSEG data showed.

A slight decrease in residual load was recorded for Thursday in Germany due to higher wind output compared with the opposite for France, LSEG analyst Francisco Gaspar Machado said.

French nuclear availability was unchanged at 69% of total capacity. POWER/FR

Power consumption in Germany is expected to stay mostly flat at 55.4 GW on Thursday, while demand in France is projected to tick up 310 MW to 42.6 GW, LSEG data showed.

German year-ahead power TRDEBYZ5 added 0.5% to 86.70 euros/MWh. The French 2025 baseload contract TRFRBYZ5 ticked up 0.1% to 70.40 euros/MWh.

European CO2 allowances for December 2024 CFI2Zc1 were down 0.2% to 64.17 euros a metric ton.
