Adds background, updates prices

LONDON, Oct 14 (Reuters) -Robusta coffee futures on ICE were higher on Monday with a potential drop in production in Vietnam set to further tighten supplies while arabica prices also rose.

COFFEE

* November robusta coffee LRCc1 rose 0.6% to $4,856 a ton, at 1445 GMT boosted by expectations of a smaller harvest in top robusta producer Vietnam.

* The coffee crop in Vietnam will fall up to 10% in the new season, which began this month, to possibly the lowest in a decade, five traders and sector representatives said.

* December arabica coffee KCc1 rose 2.1% to $2.5740 per lb.

COCOA

* March London cocoa LCCc2 rose 0.8% to 5,125 pounds a ton.

* Dealers said heavy rains in top grower Ivory Coast had hampered the main crop harvest although prospects remained generally favourable with most cocoa trees carrying more pods this season compared with the same period last year.

* Cocoa arrivals at ports in Ivory Coast reached 100,000 metric tons by Oct. 13 since the start of the season on Oct. 1, down 12.3% compared with the same period last season, exporters estimated on Monday.

* December New York cocoa CCc1 fell 0.35% to $7,712 a metric ton.

SUGAR

* March raw sugar SBc1 rose 0.04% to 22.25 cents per lb with the market consolidating after falling 3.3% last week.

* Dealers said a larger-than-expected drop in sugar production in Centre-South Brazil in the second half of September helped to underpin prices.

* Commodities trader Wilmar International on Monday cut its projections for sugar production in Brazil in the 2024/25 season saying agricultural yields and cane quality are falling quickly due to dryness and fires in farmland.

* December white sugar LSUc1 rose 0.3% to $571.20 a ton.
