SRIPERUMBUDUR, India, Sept 10 (Reuters) -Hundreds of workers at a Samsung Electronics 005930.KS plant in southern India put up tents outside the factory as they plan to boycott work to demand higher wages, a move that is set to disrupt the South Korean giant's operations for a second day.

Samsung employs around 1,800 workers at its Sriperumbudur plant near the city of Chennai that makes consumer electronic items such as refrigerators, washing machines and televisions.

Around half of the daily production was affected at the factory when many workers did not turn up for work on Monday, and the protest is continuing.

"We are striking for the second day," said union leader E. Muthukumar.

Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
