POLITICS

Prosecutors in the city of Crotone have informed six police and coastguard officers that they may face trial over alleged failures to avoid a migrant shipwreck that killed at least 94 people, angering Italy's right-wing government.

Italy plans to start the sale of the Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI) steelworks this month, its industry minister said on Tuesday, following preliminary expressions of interest received from some international players.

The Italian bank reported on Wednesday a larger-than-expected 5% quarterly rise in net profit for the three months through June, as revenues in the period held up better than anticipated compared with the start of the year.

UniCredit on Wednesday said it was investing 370 million euros ($401 million) to acquire Belgium's digital bank Aion and Vodeno, a provider of cloud-based banking services.

The Italian truck and bus maker on Wednesday said its operating profit fell 4% in the second quarter of the year due to lower volumes and adverse forex impact and that it burnt cash in the period.

A British defence policy review will not derail a multibillion- dollar fighter jet programme being developed by Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, according to an executive at Leonardo, one of the firms working on the project.

The Italian shipbuilder on Tuesday signed a contract with Carnival Corporation CCL.N for the design, engineering, and construction of three new cruise ships worth more than 2 billion euros, the company said in a statement.


POSTE ITALIANE PST.MI

Poste Italiane on Tuesday said it had reached an agreement with trade unions to renew the national collective labour agreement for non-management staff until the end of 2027.

Italy's Eni is in exclusive talks with investment company KKR KKR.N over the sale of a minority stake in Enilive, a deal that could value the biofuel unit at 11.5-12.5 billion euros including debt.

ENEL ENEI.MI

The group on Tuesday said its total consolidated power production fell 5% in the first half of this year to 96,742 gigawatt hour (Gwh) as a drop in conventional production more than offset a rise in renewable power production. In Italy electricity output in Italy fell 17% in the period. Enel also said the share of emission free electricity output rose to a peak of 84% in H1.
