July 26 (Reuters) -German truckmaker Traton 8TRA.DE on Friday posted a 7% rise in operating profit in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year driven by higher prices, even as demand remained lacklustre in Europe.

Operating profit of 2.1 billion euros ($2.28 billion) was helped by sales revenue increasing 2% to reach 23.4 billion euros, even as unit sales fell 5% year-on-year.

That meant Traton achieved an operating margin of 9.1% for the half compared to 8.6% for the same time last year.

Truckmakers are hiking prices in an attempt to boost margins as demand slows after pent-up pandemic demand waned.

Price rises at peer Volvo AB VOLVb.ST helped it report a second-quarter operating margin and profit above expectations last week.

Traton confirmed its guidance for the year.

($1 = 0.9211 euros)
