LONDON, Oct 13 (Reuters) -Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams threw four touchdown passes for the first time in his fledgling NFL career as the Chicago Bears mauled the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-16 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London on Sunday.

Williams was the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after a stellar college career, which included winning the 2022 Heisman Trophy, and after a slow start to his NFL career he is now flourishing.

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus cited Williams' ability to learn as the key factor separating him from many other rookies.

"He has always been good enough in terms of talent and those things. But he is learning the game, learning our offense and learning the skill sets that we have," Eberflus told reporters after the game.

Williams was the first Bears rookie quarterback to throw four touchdown passes in a game since Cade McNown in 1999.

"I thought he did some really amazing stuff. I thought the scramble he had (before throwing a touchdown pass) to me was just an unbelievable play, just how he can create and do those kind of things," Bears tight end Cole Kmet, who caught two of the touchdown passes, said.

"He is just super dynamic. He is a pass-first guy but he has the ability to run as well and I think he did a pretty good job taking care of himself when he does become a runner."

Williams said he was getting more comfortable although he expressed frustration about an interception he threw in the second quarter.

"I need to do better, definitely frustrating (to throw the interception). I had a few words with myself after that but got myself back on track and ready to go for the next drive."

The Bears were in London for the first time since 2019.

The Jaguars, in contrast, have played in London more than any other NFL franchise and will remain in the city to face the New England Patriots next Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

The Bears have a bye next week.
