Debby strengthens to hurricane as it approaches northeastern Gulf coast, NHC says
Aug 4 (Reuters) -Tropical Storm Debby has strengthened into a hurricane as it approached the northeastern coast of the Gulf of Mexico and will bring a major flood threat to the southeastern United States this week, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Sunday.
The hurricane was located about 100 miles (160 km) west-northwest of Tampa, Florida, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour (120 km per hour), the NHC said.
