July 19 (Reuters) -Brazilian coffee growers continued to harvest the 2024/25 crop at an accelerated pace on the back of dry weather, reaching an estimated 74% of the crop as of July 16, consultancy Safras & Mercado said on Friday.

The harvest pace is above the 66% reaped at the same time a year earlier and is well above the five-year average of 70% for this time of the year.

Harvesting of the robusta coffee variety was 92% done, above the long-term average of 87% for the period, but results have been worse than previously expected which led the consultancy to slash its view for robusta production in Brazil by more than 2 million bags on Thursday.

The consultancy estimated that 65% of arabica coffee fields have been harvested, also exceeding the five-year average of 61%.

Safras coffee analyst Gil Barabach said the data confirms the expectation for an early end of the coffee harvest in Brazil this year.
