A 25bp or 50bp Fed-cut debate doesn't pester EUR/USD bulls

Aug 14 (Reuters) -EUR/USD rallied to a 7-month high Wednesday and bulls continue to reign after U.S. CPI data fueled debate on whether the Fed will cut 25bps or 50bps in September.

July CPI came in mostly in-line with expectations, but year-over-year headline CPI was +2.9% versus a +3.0% estimate which reinforced investors views disinflation persists.

Debate as to whether the Fed will cut 25bps or 50bps heated up a bit however. CME's FedWatch Tool showed that the probability of a 50bp cut declined to near 40% from near 55% Tuesday. https://tinyurl.com/2p9h7vpn

Despite the lowered probability, investors still expect the Fed to begin its rate cutting cycle which should weigh on the dollar.

German-U.S. yield spreads US2DE2=RR reinforced the bullish EUR/USD view as they traded their tightest since August 7.

Technicals continue to highlight upside risk for EUR/USD.

Daily and monthly RSIs are rising which imply upward momentum remains. The break of the down-trend line off 2023's high, and EUR/USD's hold above a slew of daily MAs, reinforce bullish signs.

Investors are now focused on U.S. weekly claims, July retail sales and August University of Michigan reports.

Results indicating slower job growth, weaker consumer activity and slower economic growth, could have investors lean toward 50bps of Fed cuts in September which could rally EUR/USD above 1.1100.
