US Gulf Coast energy facilities hit by Hurricane Francine
39% of crude, 49% of natural gas output in Gulf of Mexico shut

Sept 12 (Reuters) -U.S. Gulf Coast energy facilities on Thursday were assessing the damage from Hurricane Francine which tore through offshore oil producing areas and slammed into the Louisiana coast on Wednesday.
Francine drenched Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama with heavy rains and gusty winds that led to widespread power outages that affected on- and offshore operations. Oil and gas producers on Thursday were further curtailing their output due to onshore power issues. Meanwhile, export ports in southern Texas began to reopen.
The U.S. Gulf of Mexico accounts for about 15% of all domestic oil production and 2% of natural gas output, according to federal data. Storm-related disruptions have the potential to affect U.S. oil supplies, leading to pressure on energy prices.
Francine has likely disrupted about 1.5 million barrels of U.S. oil production, which will reduce September production in the Gulf of Mexico by around 50,000 barrels per day, UBS said in a note.
The ports of Corpus Christi, Brownsville and other small Texas ports were now open with no restrictions as Francine passes through Louisiana. Ports in Houma, Morgan City and the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port were closed to navigation, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
