US Cash Grains-Soy basis steady-firm, corn basis mixed
CHICAGO, June 17 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for soybeans were steady to firmer in the U.S. Midwest on Monday, reflecting demand from soy processors as Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures SN24 fell to a six-week low, chilling farmer sales, but corn basis bids were mixed.
* The soybean basis firmed by 5 cents at a Lafayette, Indiana, crushing plant and held steady elsewhere.
* For corn, the spot basis improved by 7 cents a bushel at a Linden, Indiana, ethanol plant. But the basis fell by 15 cents at a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, processing site and by 1 cent at Decatur, Illinois, a grain processing hub.
* Basis bids for soft red winter wheat firmed by 15 cents a bushel at Toledo, Ohio, where the harvest is approaching. A weekly harvest report from U.S. Wheat Associates, a trade group, noted "isolated disease pressures" in the U.S. soft red crop, and said quality issues were being "closely monitored" as the harvest expands into more areas.
* Producers, grain handlers and market players awaited updated weekly crop ratings due later on Monday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
* U.S. markets and most government offices will be closed on Wednesday in observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday.
* At mid-session on the CBOT, July soybean futures SN24 were down 19-1/2 cents at $11.60-1/4 per bushel and July corn CN24 was down 5-1/2 cents at $4.44-1/2 a bushel.
