US Plains HRW Wheat-Protein premiums steady-weaker
CHICAGO, July 23 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat were unchanged in the southern U.S. Plains on Tuesday while protein premiums weakened for a few grades and the harvest progressed in northern sections of the production belt, dealers said.
* Protein premiums for HRW wheat shipped by rail to or through Kansas City fell by 8 cents a bushel for wheat with 12.6% and 12.8% protein while premiums for other grades held steady. KCBT/SCA
* Still, interest from domestic flour millers continued to underpin basis values, brokers said.
* U.S. wheat futures declined, pressured by ample global supplies and strong export competition. WHE/C
* K.C. September HRW wheat futures KWU24 settled down 5 cents at $5.66-3/4 per bushel, halting a four-session rebound from last week's life-of-contract lows.
* The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Monday the U.S. winter wheat harvest was 76% complete, up from 71% a week earlier and ahead of the five-year average of 72%.
* The harvest was virtually complete in Texas, Oklahoma and top HRW wheat producer Kansas, but combines continued to roll across Colorado, Nebraska and South Dakota, USDA weekly data showed. US/WHE
* Market participants await the findings of the Wheat Quality Council's annual U.S. spring wheat tour this week. The tour was scheduled to release findings from southern North Dakota later on Tuesday and northern North Dakota on Wednesday, before releasing a final assessment on Thursday.
