US Cash Soymeal-Basis offers flat, traders eye weak futures prices
CHICAGO, Aug 16 (Reuters) -Spot basis values for rail- and truck-delivered soymeal were unchanged around the central United States on Friday.
* Demand for new-crop supplies could increase next week if futures prices weaken further, a dealer said.
* Chicago Board of Trade December soymeal futures SMZ24 were down $6.00 at $301.70 per short ton by 12:30 p.m. CDT (1730 GMT), after setting contract lows this week. The contract was headed for a weekly loss of about 2.8%.
* Basis was heavy this week as soy crushing has increased due to improved margins and the end of downtime at some processing facilities, a rail dealer said. A slowdown in U.S. soymeal export demand leaves more supplies on the domestic market, he said.
* Total U.S. soymeal export sales of 253,800 metric tons for 2023-24 and 2024-25 were seen as lackluster in data issued on Thursday for the week ended Aug. 8. Analysts expected 150,000 to 650,000 metric tons.
