STOXX 600 DROPS TO 12-WEEK LOW AS EARNINGS FAIL TO IMPRESS
European equities are in the red on Thursday as the decline in global shares extended further on disappointing earnings and worries about the health of the global economy.
The STOXX 600 is last down 1.2% - extending on Wednesday's 0.6% drop - to its lowest level since May 3.
France's CAC 40 .FCHI has dropped below its election campaign trough to hit its lowest level since January.
Other major bourses are down between 0.7%-2.1%.
Shares in Universal Music Group UMG.AS are tumbling around 30% and on track for their biggest daily drop on record after the firm flagged a slowdown in its subscription and streaming segment. Vivendi VIV.PA - which owns an almost 10% stake in the firm, according to LSEG data - is down 8%.
It's also been a bad start for Europe's chip names, as BE Semiconductor BESI.AS and STMicroelectronics STMPA.PA are both plunging over 11% following results.
Healthcare stocks .SXDP are one of the only bright spots, helped by a 16% rise in Britain's Indivior INDV.L and robust gains for industry giants Sanofi SASY.PA and Roche ROG.S after earnings.
