Global equity slump set to gather momentum in Europe

GLOBAL EQUITY SLUMP SET TO GATHER MOMENTUM IN EUROPE
The global equity retreat that has gripped markets looks set to continue in Europe on Thursday, with futures signalling a firmly negative open.
Euro STOXX 50 futures STXEc1 are down 1.2% after the index dropped 1.1% on Wednesday.
Futures on Germany's DAX FDXc1, Britain's FTSE 100 FFIc1 and France's CAC 40 FCEc1 are lower between 0.7%-1.4%. MSCI's broadest gauge of Asia-Pacific shares ex-Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS is last down 1%.
Wall Street futures are steady after the S&P .SPX slid 2.3% and the Nasdaq 100 .NDX plunged over 3.5% on Wednesday.
Drivers of the weakness include disappointing earnings, weak euro area PMIs and a surprise rate cut in China that stoked further worries about the strength of the world's second-largest economy.
In corporate news, Kering PRTP.PA was the latest luxury group to flag weakness in China, as it forecast a 30% fall in operating profit.
It looks to have been a better quarter for large-cap pharmaceutical firms as Switzerland's Roche ROG.S, France's Sanofi SASY.PA and Britain's AstraZeneca AZN.L all lifted their profit outlook on Thursday due to strong demand for their drugs.
