South Korean shares rise with earnings in focus; Samsung Electronics falls

South Korea benchmark bond yield steady
SEOUL, Oct 21 (Reuters) -Round-up of South Korean financial markets:
** South Korean shares rose on Monday, after three sessions of losses, with investor focus on third-quarter results of major companies at home and abroad.
** The won and the benchmark bond yield were little changed.
** The benchmark KOSPI .KS11 rose 15.76 points, or 0.61%, to 2,609.58 by 0053 GMT.
** South Korea's exports for the first 20 days of October fell 2.9% from a year earlier, data showed, after rising in September for the 12th consecutive month but with the pace of growth cooling.
** Major South Korean companies, including chipmaker SK Hynix, automakers and financial firms, are scheduled to report their third-quarter earnings this week.
** SK Hynix 000660.KS rose 2.19%, but rival Samsung Electronics 005930.KS fell 0.84% to its lowest level since early January 2023.
** Samsung Electronics has postponed taking deliveries of ASML ASML.AS chipmaking equipment for its upcoming factory in Texas as it has yet to win any major customers for the project, Reuters reported on Friday.
** Most other index heavyweights firmed, including battery makers, automakers, biopharmaceutical manufacturers and e-commerce firms.
** Of the total 926 traded issues, 475 shares advanced, while 345 declined.
** Foreigners were net sellers of shares worth 34.4 billion won ($25.14 million).
** The won was quoted at 1,368.2 per dollar on the onshore settlement platform KRW=KFTC, 0.08% higher than its previous close at 1,369.3.
** In money and debt markets, December futures on three-year treasury bonds KTBc1 rose 0.04 point to 105.97.
** The most liquid three-year Korean treasury bond yield KR3YT=RR fell by 1.7 basis points to 2.904%, while the benchmark 10-year yield KR10YT=RR fell by 0.7 basis point to 3.061%.
